Reducing Racial and Ethnic Disparities through Self-Identification

Developed, tested, and implemented agency wide training to address racial and ethnic disparities experienced by youth in the care of the Massachusetts Department of Youth Services.

  • Agency data informed intervention and was infused in training to ensure learners understood where disparities currently exist and where their behavior could positively impact existing disparities.

Dual Impact:  

  1. Through "training of trainers," agency team prepared and empowered to lead future trainings on racial and ethnic disparities to train DYS staff on strategies needed to reduce racial and ethnic disparities. 
  2. 450+ staff trained to bring understanding of bias to decision-making with the goal of reducing racial and ethnic disparities.

Fostering Inclusive Environments

In partnership with Greater Worcester Community Foundation and Linda Cavaioili, YWCA Central Massachusetts:

  • created assessment and curriculum for, and
  • co-led two-part training series on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: Getting Started and Moving Forward.
  • Audience: Non-profit executive teams and boards of directors.

Impact: Multiple non-profit organizations have committed to increasing inclusion at the employee and board levels through ongoing training and planning.


Professional Development through Curriculum Design


A 10-module social justice curriculum was developed for Americorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts, a program of South Coastal Counties Legal Services. 


Dual Impact:

  1. Americorps members start their year of service with a professional training manual that covers the core competencies required for success. 
  2. Americorps Legal Advocates of Massachusetts provides high quality, consistent, and rigorous training to its members.
